Tecar, also called capacitive-resistive energy transfer, is a radiofrequency-based physical modality. Energy transfer between electrodes may produce thermal and sensory effects in tissue. It has been studied for short-term outcomes in selected musculoskeletal presentations, but should not be described as guaranteed deep-tissue healing or as a replacement for exercise.
What do capacitive and resistive modes mean?
Different electrodes are used to alter how energy interacts with tissue. Mode, power and duration depend on the target, feedback and device protocol.
Technical terminology does not guarantee success for a diagnosis. Delivery should connect to a clinical aim and measurable response.
What does Tecar feel like?
Comfortable warmth is usually intended; excessive heat or burning is not. The applicator moves and feedback is monitored. Altered sensation, circulation and skin condition affect safety.
Metal, implants and electronic devices must be disclosed and checked against manufacturer guidance.
When might Tecar be added?
It may be considered for comfort and movement preparation in selected muscle, tendon or joint presentations. Research protocols differ, so responses are not universal.
A relevant movement, strength or task is then trained. Warmth alone is not a functional outcome.
Who may not be suitable?
Pregnancy, active bleeding, acute infection, a suspicious lesion, significant sensory loss and some electronic implants need specific assessment. Skin at the application area is checked.
Suitability cannot be decided from an online list alone; medication and recent surgery also matter.
How is response reviewed?
Motion and a functional task are compared alongside pain. If temporary comfort does not support active progress, the rationale is reconsidered.
Courses are based on goals and reassessment rather than an automatic package or repeated identical dose.

Is Tecar simply a heat treatment?
It can produce warmth, but delivery has energy-transfer and dosing characteristics. Clinical value is not reduced to warmth alone.
Will Tecar remove pain completely?
No guarantee is possible. It may support short-term comfort for some people while load and function still need attention.
Can Tecar be used with an implant?
The implant type, location and device guidance must be known. It should always be disclosed before treatment.
Can exercise follow Tecar?
Yes, when appropriate, active work can use the temporary change in comfort to train relevant function.
How many Tecar sessions are needed?
There is no fixed number. Continuing without a measured response or functional goal is not appropriate.
